How to choose a gallery cleaner app?
There is no single right answer to "which is best", because these apps do not do the same job. But ruling out the wrong ones is easy: drop any app that uploads your photos to its own server, deletes without confirmation, or forgets where you left off, and few options remain.

Six criteria
1. Are photos processed on the device, or sent to the cloud?
This is the most important distinction. Some apps upload your photos to their own server for "smart analysis". That means sending your most private data to a company you do not know.
On-device processing means analysis and deletion happen inside your phone; images do not go to the app's server. Working in airplane mode is a good sign but not proof on its own: an app can work offline and send data once it reconnects. The reliable answer is in the privacy section of the store page and in the privacy policy.
Swyra: it does not send your photos and videos to its own server, and cleaning works offline. (If iCloud Photos or Google Photos is on for your phone, your images may already be in the cloud; that is independent of Swyra.) The free version has ads, plus crash reports and a usage counter; none of it involves your images, details on the privacy page.
2. Can deletion be undone?
In an app that deletes permanently with a single tap, there is no going back from a wrong tap. In a good flow, deleting is two-stage: items are marked first, then you confirm them in bulk.
It is also a good sign when permanent deletion goes through your phone's own confirmation dialog; it shows the deletion passed through your approval.
Don't skip this: a photo you delete from your phone can also be deleted from your other devices if iCloud Photos or Google Photos is on. Swyra is not a backup tool; back up anything you want to keep before you start cleaning.
Swyra: swiping left does not delete, it puts the item on the delete list. Permanent deletion happens only with your confirmation and through your phone's own dialog. After that it still waits 30 days in Recently Deleted on iPhone, and in the trash on Android.
3. Does it remember where you left off?
Gallery cleaning does not finish in one session. An app that does not remember where you left off starts you over every time, and most people give up on the second try.

4. What is the free limit, and when does it ask for money?
Free versions usually have some limit. What matters is knowing where it stops in advance: after how many items? Does it charge you to undo your deletions? Before installing, check the in-app purchase list on the store page.

5. Does it require an account?
You do not need to sign up to clean your gallery. For an app that asks for an account, check what data is tied to that account in the privacy policy; an account alone does not mean your data leaves the device, but it is a question worth asking.

6. Is the decision yours, or the app's?
Some apps pick and bulk-delete the photos they consider "unnecessary". It is fast, but you approve without seeing what is going. An app's job is to find candidates and put them in front of you, not to make the decision.

When is Swyra not the right choice?
To be honest, in a few cases you will want a different tool:
- If you want cleanup without looking at photos at all. Swyra brings every item in front of you and waits for your decision. There is no automatic bulk deletion; that is a deliberate design choice, but not everyone wants it.
- If you want to clear app cache, downloads or file junk. Swyra only deals with photos and videos.
- If you are looking for a backup. Swyra is not a backup tool; it copies nothing to the cloud. If you want to back up, you need to solve that separately.
- If you want to manage from a computer. Swyra is an iPhone and Android app only; there is no desktop version.
